Farmer Wilhelm Dinglebender is promised riches by a shady real estate broker if he will sell his land for a new city to be built on it. Falling asleep while pondering the offer, Dinglebender dreams of the fully realized Dream City where he is both a millionaire and the Mayor of the utopian town. But his dream becomes a nightmare when he is forced to confront the bane of his existence: grand opera.
This first production of Victor Herbert's work since 1906, Herbert's score combines a wide range of styles that serves as a precursor to American musical theater, and features the hilarious "The Magic Knight" sequence, a wild parody of Wagner's Lohengrin.
